Let’s stay healthy – Preventing COVID-19 spread (March 15)

Impact Hub Zürich · 15.03.2020

(last update: Sunday, 15 March 2020, 10.30am, added new measures on top, old text at bottom)

Dear Community,

It is our duty, without regard to business, to protect the health of our employees, members, partners and guests and to do everything humanly possible to slow down the spread of Covid 19.

We have therefore decided to close all three locations of Impact Hub Zürich, including Café Auer & Co. and Kraftwerk Restaurant, with immediate effect. We will evaluate the situation every two weeks.

Impact Hub members are still able to work in the members’ area at Colab (1st, 4th and 5th floor), although we strongly advise you to do Home Office and to follow the recommendations of the FOPH. We will ensure your continued access to Colab and carry out the cleaning as usual. To protect our team members, hosting will be reduced to an absolute minimum.

The decision to take this step was not easy for us. It has massive financial consequences for Impact Hub Zürich and demands a lot from all team members. We are extremely grateful to our incredibly great team for their understanding and tireless efforts!

In the coming weeks, we will increase our virtual support for the almost 1’000 start-ups, individual companies and entrepreneurs in the Impact Hub Community, and we are counting on the support of our partner companies and organizations. We will intensify online community building and take part in the many solidarity-based help offers for neighbors, elderly people and Covid risk persons in the neighborhoods (e.g. here or here). And we would like to express our gratitude to the medical doctors, the nursing staff and all those who are at the forefront of the fight against Covid 19 throughout the country. We have also listened to you in our decision.

We wish you all good health and much strength in these difficult times. Despite all the bad news, we will spread more optimism and confidence in the next few days – for example, on Tuesday, 24th March, at 1 PM online together with Paul Polmann, Lena el-Sheikh Mahjoub, Jill Ader, Gilbert Ghostine, Okendo Lewis-Gale and 40 other inspiring personalities in an open video conference (more information soon).

Best regards,

Your Impact Hub Zürich Team

(Version of March 11)

Dear IHZ members,

The flu has been around for a while now, and Corona virus is also knocking at our doors. With this post, we just want to communicate some guidelines for everyone in the Impact Hub Zürich community. First and foremost, and to make it clear: we see absolutely no reason for panic. We simply want you and us to be prepared. The Impact Hub Zürich is continuously monitoring the reports of the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) and the Canton of Zurich and implements their instructions. The ZHAW, our Startup Campus partner, also has a pandemic plan which will be implemented immediately in the event of an incident.

The FOPH has currently raised the status from “normal situation” to “special situation” and banned all events involving more than 1000 people until 15th March. At Impact Hub Zürich, there are currently no events or activities of this magnitude and therefore no measures need to be taken in this regard. For smaller events that are organized by or with IHZ, we introduce the following measures: Collection of contact data all participants, additional information, hand sanitizers, adapted seating, adapted catering offer, if possible: live-streaming.

So here are some general measures we feel are appropriate at this point:

  1. If you feel ill or you have been in close contact with an infected person in the past 5 days, please stay at home.
  2. We have equipped the office with more hand sanitizers, got rid of the hand towels in the toilets and hung up some in-space communication for everyone.
  3. In addition to the hand sanitizers, please wash your hands regularly. Cough or sneeze into a paper tissue, or if you don’t have a tissue use the crook of your arm.
  4. As recommended by the FOPH, we recommend you to keep your distance from others in meetings, queues, etc., and to avoid shaking hands.
  5. Let us know if you have any questions.

We’ll update the guidelines if need be. Let’s stay healthy all together!

Have a great week!
