Impact Hub Zurich expected to move to Limmathaus Zurich in 2024 (Update of 7.10.20)

Background: Due to the cantonal project 'Berufsbildungsmeile' in the Kreis 5, Impact Hub Zürich will have to give up its main location in the interim use at Sihlquai. As a new location, the Limmathaus Foundation has promised the Impact Hub as a leaseholder from 2024 (see media release dated October 6, 2020).

We want to build a lighthouse for the future of work and society in the Limmathaus - in keeping with the foundation's purpose and the history of the Limmathaus. It is our goal to use the building in its entirety: i.e. all parts of the building will be equally weighted in our concept, accessible to the public and similarly lively. In this way, we create added social value not only in the large hall, where cultural events will continue to be held, but in each individual part of the building. An important part of the concept is also the outdoor square: as an open, green meeting zone, a neighborhood meeting place is created, with catering, space for randomness and for a wide variety of activities. Our plan is to operate the building in a financially sustainable but not profit-maximizing manner, with a clear focus on the needs of the neighborhood and city population.

The four floors of the current hotel complex are to be converted into an open co-working area. Inspiring workplaces will be created for social entrepreneurs, self-employed people, start-ups, project teams, people from the cultural and creative scene and many more. On all floors, we will create open areas for exchange in the form of tea kitchens and living rooms. The main goal of these common zones is to bring people together.

In our concept, we see the current catering area, the terrace and the rest of the outdoor area as well as the foyer as an open catering and meeting zone. The central role of the entire first floor is to provide low-threshold, direct access to the Limmathaus. We see the outside area as a terrace for the catering business and - greened and open on all sides - as a public meeting zone. Markets or other activities can take place regularly on this square, thus attracting the population to the Limmathaus.

Our concept for the large hall is based on a mixed use of cultural, social and economic uses; the hall should continue to offer space for musical and other cultural events and especially parties - for this purpose we are planning to cooperate with various cultural partners in order to address a large variety of visitors. But also social events such as dialogue events, exhibitions and markets as well as club or network events should find their place, as well as conferences, hackathons and meetings.

Our goal is for the Limmathaus to become a meeting place for the city and neighborhood populations, and for them to come together in the Limmathaus across the generations. We can achieve this by keeping prices low, adapting the offer to the needs of the local population and providing space for special needs.
