Storytelling Breakfast. Ownership matters.

Storytelling Breakfast. Ownership matters.

What does it mean to be the owner of a company? Is it a right or a responsibility? How does the individual answer influence decisions and actions?

About the event

Patagonia and Impact Hub Zurich warmly invite you to another inspiring session of Storytelling Breakfast. This morning, together with Purpose Schweiz, we’ll be diving into the topic of company ownership. We are often talking about entrepreneurship that is suitable for generations to come and offers the economy, society and the planet real prospects for the future. The focus is usually on the content – on what a company actually does.

However, it is rarely concerned with the question of how that company is organised and how it is legally structured at its core. Nevertheless, the latter is of crucial importance when it comes to considering and shaping the behaviour of companies. As Kate Raworth (Oxford economist and founder of Doughnut Economics) puts it: ‘More than the design of specific products or services, what matters most is the deep design of the organisation itself.’ This deep design of a company includes, in particular, the issue of ownership – in other words, the question of who owns a company and who ultimately makes the decisions.

What happens with a company when the ownership passes from one generation to another or when the company is sold? How can the company stay true to its purpose and reason being in the long run? During this morning we’ll dive into these questions and look at a particular way of structuring a company that ensures the long-term purpose orientation and independence – Steward-Ownership.

Together we’ll be watching the pilot episode of the Swiss TV-Series “$hare”, listen to an heir of a company share her experience and reflections and in the end dive into an active discussion with both the interviewed person, the creator of the TV-Series and all of you in the form of a fishbowl discussion.

We look forward to seeing you there, spread the word!
