AI Mornings: Decision Making Process around AI Investments

AI Mornings: Decision Making Process around AI Investments

In this talk Donnacha Daly will draw on his 20+ years industrial experience in pitching, funding, and managing data-centric projects & businesses, to provide a personal perspective on the decision-making process around investments in Artificial Intelligence. As we move into the second decade of the 21st Century, AI is approaching an important inflection point, whereby disruption gives way to ubiquity, creating a new cohort of corporate winners and losers. Investors and managers can really struggle to place meaningful bets in this marketplace, given the game-changing nature of the technology, the unfamiliarity of the start-up ecosystem and the novelty of emerging business models. A framework is proposed that the speaker has found useful to navigate these considerations, and which will be illustrated in the talk, through real and experienced use-cases from across the industry.
For the last 5 years, Donnacha Daly has been leading global innovation at Lanids+Gyr in Zug, a world leading provider of smart-metering and energy management solutions. His role there included start-up venturing, M&A and also managing the company IPO in 2017. From 2020 he begins lecturing and research in Artificial Intelligence and Entrepreneurship at the Luzern University of Applied Sciences and Arts. Previously Donnacha was active in several European tech startups such as swissQuant in Zurich, with a focus on value-creation through data engineering. He has a PhD in signal processing and holds dual Irish and Swiss citizenships.
